Replicating tasks

There is an action in the Markbook that will let you replicate tasks. Two reasons why you may want to do this are:

The tasks that you set up in your Markbook don’t change much from year to year. Replicating the tasks rather than recreating them each year can save you some time, or
You have a number of tasks that you created for year 11 which you now want to use in a combined task for the same students who are now in year 12.

Replicating tasks is done from the actions area, and needs to be done on a subject-by-subject basis.

1.Search for the subject (or class) you wish to work with.
2.From the Actions area, select Replicate Task’ and click Go.

3.A pop up appears asking for more information. Check the tick boxes as relevant.

Preserve Marks is asking you if you want to keep the current marks as you replicate the task, or start again with blank tasks. If you were replicating tasks to use for the next year 7 English class (for example) you would not tick this box. If you were replicating the tasks because you want to move them from a year 11 subject to a year 12 subject, you would most likely want the marks as well so you would tick this box.

Keep Date is asking you if you want to keep the exact date of the task. If you tick this box the day, month and year of the task will be kept. If you don’t tick this box, the day and the month of the task will be kept, but the year will be advanced by one.

Advance the subject is asking if you want to keep the task for the existing subject, or move them to the ‘next’ subject. You would only tick this box if you were moving tasks from year 11 to year 12, for example.

The ‘next’ subject needs to be set up for the Advance the Subject function to work. This is managed via Calendar | Timetable | Manage Subjects – in the Rollup Subject field. For example, on the manage subjects screen you would select the subject 07ENL, and then specify 08ENL in the Rollup Subject field. Do this for all subjects.

4.When you have ticked the relevant boxes, click Next.
5.A popup appears where you can select which tasks you want to replicate. By default, none will be selected. If you want to select all of them, click the Toggle All button. Otherwise, tick the individual ones you want to replicate.

6.Click Replicate.
7.You will see a warning. Click OK to continue.

8.The tasks are replicated, and you will see confirmation of this at the bottom of your screen.
