If you have created absence records for more than one consecutive day via the Name field popup, these absences will be kept together as a group.
On the main grid they will appear as single absence records for each of the days, but as you edit one of them iWise will recognise that they were created as a group and ask if you would like to update all the records in the group.
This feature can be useful when you have received a note that explains why a student was away for the last week.
