Managing event categories

     

Categorising an event when it is created is mandatory, and is the first thing you are asked as you create an event.

 

Once categories, the event category can be useful for search for specific types of events (eg excursions, staff development etc). The event category is also displayed on the student attendance screen when a student is attending an event – providing information about what type of event the student is attending.

The screen shot below is from Data Entry | Attendance | Manage, and is showing that Betty Adamou and Sian Adderley are both on events – one an Excursion, the other Study Period.

 

 

A default set of event categories is provided, and these can be managed and/or added to via Calendar | Events | Categories.

1.Go to Calendar | Events | Categories.
2.To create a new event category click New Category in the Actions area.

3.Or to edit an existing category double click on a Category from the list on the right.
4.Clicking New Category, or double clicking on an existing category brings up the Event Category Maintenance screen.

 

A description of the fields on this screen are as follows:

Event Category

This is the name of the event category.

 

Approval Status

This field is used to set the default approval status for events created using this category.

 

Allow in appointment booking

This field is only relevant when creating appointments with a right click action on a teacher’s My Day screen. If this box is checked, teachers will be able to select this category as an option when they create a personal appointment.

Please note that appointments dragged out on teacher’s individual calendar will automatically be given the event category of ‘Appointment’. Teachers using their own individual calendar to create an event will not be given the opportunity to select the event category.

Private

This field is used to set the default ‘Personal (or Private)’ status for events created using this category.

 

Privacy

This field is used to set the default privacy settings for events created using this category.
