Subject based and class based tasks |
When creating tasks, you will specify its Scope. If the task is for all students in a subject, the scope of the task is Whole Subject. If the task is for just students on one class, the scope of the task is Whole Class. Most major tasks – such as end of semester assessment exams and assignments - will have a scope of Whole Subject, while smaller class quizzes and tests created by individual teachers will most likely have a scope of Whole Class. Specifying the scope of the task is done as you create it, and is based on the selection you have made in the Search area. In the Search area, if the Select for Class tasks field is showing ‘All Students’, when you create a task it will be for the whole subject. If the Select for Class tasks field is showing a specific class, when you create a task it will be for that one class only.
If you are creating a task that is for a whole subject (with multiple classes), only one task needs to be set up. Individual teachers can then access it an enter results for their class. For example, all four Year 8 Maths classes will be sitting the end of semester exam. To record these marks, the Maths Coordinator creates one subject-based task. All the Year 8 Maths teachers can then see that task and are able to enter their results.
The scope of a task can be edited, if required, on the ‘Basic’ tab of the task details popup. More information about editing the scope of a task. If you prefer teachers to see their own class marks only – and not the results entered by other teachers – you can specify this in the ‘Task available to’ field on the ‘Advanced’ tab of task details popup.
